FORT BUCHANAN – Medical personnel from the Puerto Rico National Guard (GNPR) began to use a new protective equipment that provides more security and promotes better air flow, it was reported on Wednesday.
“Our soldiers have been extremely engaged from day one in this battle against COVID-19. This new equipment provides them with greater protection during the vaccination process since it is accompanied by an air filtration system that facilitates better breathing, ”said the adjutant general of Puerto Rico, Division General José Reyes in written communication.
“The staff of the Caguas vaccination center is the first group to use this new equipment. Gradually the rest of the medical personnel of the National Guard will be using it in the different vaccination centers ”, he added.
The members of the GNPR stationed in the different vaccination centers were trained to know the operation and handling of the new equipment known as the Purifying Air Respirator (PAPR).
This model of equipment has been used for decades in hospitals, healthcare facilities and pharmaceuticals.
Its maintenance is manual and is done quickly and easily, including changing the battery and filters.
“We have a great responsibility in our hands. It is a job that fills us with pride because we know that we are protecting people and the use of this new equipment gives us and those we vaccinate more security, ”said Sergeant Rafael Torres of the Puerto Rico State Guard.
For his part, General Reyes stated that “definitely, our soldiers will be able to feel safer. Their ease of movement will not be interrupted and citizens who are going to be vaccinated in our centers will also be safer. We protect our soldiers while protecting and caring for our people. “
