Nino Correa on the rescue in Ciales: "It is a difficult and extremely risky one"

The acting commissioner of the Bureau for Emergency Management and Disaster Administration (NMEAD), Nino Correa Filomeno indicated that, at this time, they have not yet been able to rescue two young people who were trapped in the Toro Negro river, in Ciales after a water hit by the tropical storm Laura.

People are trapped in a fairly remote place with difficult access known as “El morón” puddle.

“Due to weather conditions caused Due to Tropical Storm Laura, the rescue process is a difficult and extremely risky one for personnel. At the moment, the only way to access the area is using a helicopter, but due to the winds that still affect the area, this option constitutes an imminent danger for rescuers ”the official said in written statements.

Currently, he assured, they are working on a rescue plan to find young people in good health and "who can return to their homes."

Personnel from the Municipality of Ciales, the Police, Medical Emergencies and NMEAD are collaborating to achieve a successful rescue.

"I take this opportunity to reiterate the call not to attend bodies of water, rivers, beaches or puddles. The weather conditions are unstable and he would be putting his life and that of the first responders at risk ”he said.
