The Popular Democratic Party (PPD) is preparing this afternoon to review the voting records corresponding to the Guánica election after the award of new votes to the candidate by direct nomination, Edgardo Cruz Vélez, who is now at the forefront in the mayoral race of that town.
This depends on a meeting that they will hold at 1:00 pm with the presiding judge of the State Elections Commission (CEE), Francisco Rosado Colomer, since they question that the number of votes granted to Cruz Vélez is greater than the universe of ballots that voted by direct nomination.
According to Lind Orlando Merle Feliciano, legal representative of the recently sworn mayor, Ismael “Titi” Rodríguez Ramos, “this is a lack of respect for democracy and the people of Puerto Rico and a clear conspiracy in exchange for this man joining the the Federation of Mayors and re-align themselves with the New Progressive Party and we are going to show it to them ”.
“We were summoned yesterday, in compliance with the judgment of the (Supreme) Court to only verify those ballots that did not have a mark. That process concluded with the result of 21 unmarked ballots and now it turns out that that candidate wins by more than 56 votes, in excess of the universe of ballots for the direct nomination vote and we are not going to accept it, “the lawyer declared.
“There is a clear conspiracy here and we saw from yesterday morning that it was materializing because the positions both in the Court and in the Commission changed direction dramatically, but at 180 degrees, to favor Mr. Edgardo Cruz,” he added.
He also pointed out that in the process carried out on Thursday by order of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico, two votes were subtracted from the popular candidate “despite the fact that the ruling indicated that the rest would not be touched.”
“After today’s meeting with the president of the EEC, we are going to decide the course of action to follow because the votes of Ismael ‘Titi’ Rodríguez have the same value as the votes of the direct nomination candidate. This does not end here today … we are going to be fighting for what we understand to be correct because these people have lent themselves to favor something that they find nice for a person to defeat bipartisanship ”, he argued.
“We understand that when the truth is finally discovered, the people of Puerto Rico will witness one more event than what would be electoral fraud,” he said.
For his part, Rodríguez Ramos classified as “a robbery”, the certification issued by the EEC this morning, which confirms some 2,411 votes for the “write in” candidate.
“This is an armed robbery… here (there is) much to explain. Last night until 7:00 or 8:00 they had certified that there were no more ballots to be adjudicated and that the process had ended and when they realized that the candidate by direct nomination continued to lose to that server, they lengthened the certification process and overnight, at 3:00 in the morning, a briefcase appears by magic, “he denounced.
“Here there is a duplication of votes counted and we are going to show it. In addition, we are raising the proposition that the EEC violated the mandate of the Supreme Court because yesterday, the instruction was to begin at 9:00 in the morning to remove the ballots where the candidate by direct nomination had put the name, but They hadn’t put the X mark and this was supposed to be a quick process to leave early in the afternoon, but it wasn’t like that, ”he reiterated.
Meanwhile, he insisted that he will defend the position to which he was sworn in on Monday, January 11, before the lawyer Ariel Irizarry, after receiving the official certification that declared him the winner of the contest.
“I am not only going to defend my position in the mayoralty, but also the right of the people who voted for me, of the Guaniqueños who voted and trusted my candidacy. We are not going to allow the PNP or the EEC to get away with this matter, and already this morning the candidate by direct nomination showed that he does not rule out joining the PNP ”, he warned.
He confessed that the process has emotionally affected both him and his family, as many people see him as the bad guy in the movie.
“It is a very difficult process… both for me and my family. It is not easy at all, but we understand that we have made the right decisions and we thank God for the strength and we thank the people and the people of Guaniqueño who have remained in prayers for this servant and our family ”, he revealed.
“I have always spoken the truth to our people. I understand that the candidacy by direct nomination is attractive to the country, to the press and the media, but I have always been defending what is fair and the rights of those who voted for this server “, he concluded.
