Obama criticizes Trump for throwing paper towels in Puerto Rico

Former United States President Barack Obama referred to Puerto Rico today to criticize current President Donald Trump’s management of the island. During a campaign event in favor of Joe Biden’s presidential candidacy held in Miami, Obama said the growing number of Puerto Ricans living and voting in Florida, a context that he used to criticize President Trump’s response after Hurricane Maria in 2017.

“When a hurricane devastates Puerto Rico, a president is supposed to help it rebuild, not throw away paper towels and withhold billions of dollars in aid until just before the election,” Obama said.

In addition, the former president recalled Trump’s expressions about wanting to sell to Puerto Rico, as recently emerged from statements by former Trump government officials, who said that the president asked if the island could be sold or exchanged for Greenland.
