SAN JUAN – The president of the Puerto Rico Teachers Association (AMPR), Elba Aponte Santos said on Friday that according to surveys they have carried out, parents do not want to send their children to take face-to-face classes for fear of contagion from COVID-19.
“The reality is that you have to rehabilitate the classrooms. I think the schools had started cleaning them up and they have staff there. So, they were reviewing the contingency plan. However, in terms of when it can start, I don’t see that it can start right now because we are at the moment where we look to the side and there is someone you know who has COVID. We are at that moment, “said Aponte Santos in a radio interview. (Radio Isla 1320)
“We have done the census through parents we know and most parents say they would not send their children at this time,” he added.
He said there has to be a phased plan to incorporate the schools.
