SAN JUAN – The governor-elect Pedro Pierluisi said on Thursday that he met with Sara Rosario, president of the Puerto Rico Olympic Committee (COPUR), Mr. Felipe Pérez and Jorge Sosa, both directors of the 2010 Foundation, regarding the request from the COPUR Committee to Centro Caribe Sports to consider Puerto Rico as the venue for the Central American and Caribbean Games in 2022.
“This type of event is huge and brings with it multiple benefits for the sport, our athletes and our economy,” Pierluisi said in written statements.
“In principle, I welcome endorsing the petition, although I recognize that our Island is going through a very complicated fiscal situation and that we will have to explore all available financing alternatives, including the use of federal funds for the necessary improvements to the area’s infrastructure. west, ”he added.
He explained that the next step is for COPUR and the Foundation to meet with the staff of the Supervisory Board so that it can evaluate the potential fiscal impact, as well as the economic benefits, that an event of this magnitude would have.
“COPUR and the Foundation will be able to count on my cooperation in this process,” he said.
