The Panel on the Independent Special Prosecutor (PFEI) announced that it assigned an FEI to Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced and other officials referred by the Department of Justice.
The determination of the PFEI comes after evaluating the investigation report. preliminary that Justice submitted, before which it understands that "said investigation showed sufficient cause for a thorough investigation to be carried out into the facts indicated in said reference."
"In consideration of the foregoing, the Panel accepted the recommendation of the DJPR to appoint an Independent Special Prosecutor in this case. This, when concluding that there is sufficient cause to order that a thorough investigation be carried out on the infractions of the law attributed to the officials who were referred to, "reads the press release.
The PFEI received this past 10 of July six referrals from the then Secretary of Justice, Dennise Longo Quiñones.
The other officials who will be investigated are the Secretary of the Interior, Antonio Pabón; the exadministradora of the Administration of Socioeconomic Development of the Family (Adsef), Surima Quiñonez Suárez; José A. Galarza Vargas, María Teresa Zayas Gierbolini, and New Pro-Senator Evelyn Vázquez Nieves.

The PFEI determined for this investigation as Special Independent Prosecutor Ms. Leticia Pabón Ortiz and Mr. Miguel A. Colón Ortiz, Deputy Attorney.
Two weeks ago, it emerged that an official from the Department of Justice came to the PFEI with six referrals, including one to the governor. It was also learned that the referrals could not be delivered because the agent received a call warning that he should return to the Justice Department with the boxes of evidence. He did not have time to file the referrals.
These referrals were left by Longo Quiñones, who on July 3 was removed as Secretary of Justice. According to press releases, the referred refer to the supposed intervention of the governor in the distribution of supplies after the January earthquakes.
