Governor Pedro Pierluisi, in his first statements after the fire at the Monacillos substation, assured that his government is responding to the emergency.
“All the resources of the government of Puerto Rico are available to handle the emergency caused by the fire at the Monacillos substation in Río Piedras,” the governor wrote in a tweet.

An unknown number of LUMA Energy subscribers are without power due to the fire that occurred this afternoon.
Meanwhile, LUMA Energy said on its Twitter account that the fire caused “significant blackouts throughout the island.”
A significant fire has been reported at the Monacillos substation. The fire caused significant blackouts across the island. The situation is being assessed and working to restore the system.
