THE CAPITOL – The spokesman for the New Progressive Party in the House of Representatives, Carlos ‘Johnny’ Méndez Núñez, spoke in favor of the amendments made by the Senate to the budget bill.

“The Senate acted, in a responsible manner, correcting several of the serious deficiencies that the majority of the Popular Democratic Party in the House of Representatives imposed in the budget resolution for the next fiscal year 2021-2022, including totally restrictive language designed to obstruct the function of the Executive, without saying anything about the elimination of necessary items, all under the excuse of wanting to approve a budget from the Fiscal Oversight Board, ”said Méndez Núñez in written statements.

“In order to understand the deficiencies of the PPD delegation in the Chamber, which out of the box demonstrated their intention not to collaborate with the governor, using as a base the budget presented by the Fiscal Oversight Board, the NPP delegation presented a series of amendments that unfortunately were rejected by the PPD delegation. The Senate incorporated some of these, making the measure more viable than what the People’s Chamber tried to impose ”, he added.

On Thursday night, the Senate approved, with 24 votes in favor and three against (from the senators of the Victoria Ciudadana Movement and the Puerto Rican Independence Party), a budget of 10 thousand, 112 million dollars, for fiscal year 2021- 2022.

The measure passes again to the House of Representatives, so that they concur with the amendments or a Conference Committee is convened.
