The municipality of Ponce will help with the payment of housing rent, water and electricity to families economically affected by the coronavirus, Mayor María “Mayita” Meléndez reported today.
The mayor indicated that for these purposes Ponce has $ 553,583 in funds that were assigned by the federal Housing Department under the Cares law and the program Emergency Solutions Grant.
“We want to address the needs of people who could be at risk of losing their homes or electricity and water services as a result of the pandemic that has affected us all so much,” said Meléndez in written statements.
“This incentive will cover arrears up to six months subject to availability of funds. To receive this benefit, they must complete the application and also present documentation that evidences their current housing and income status. I urge those who need this help to request it. We in the municipality continue working for everyone ”, said the mayor.
The people who could qualify are those who have arrears in the payment of rent or who have received an eviction notice from the court or landlord, and in the same way, those who have arrears in the payment of water and electricity that correspond to the date to from March 16.
