SAN JUAN – The electoral commissioner of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), Gerardo Antonio Cruz Maldonado, reported that in the general vote, the community obtained the seats of the Senate District of Arecibo.

“Today, we finalized the recount of the Arecibo Senate District and we verified that the popular candidate Rubén Soto, prevailed as Senator of the District. On the night of the event, Soto was ahead of the PNP candidate and current senator Ángel “Chayanne” Martínez ”with over 200 votes. After 16 years the PPD manages to rescue the District and with this victory the Popular Party dominates six of the eight Senate Districts, ”said Cruz Maldonado in written statements.

According to the popular commissioner, despite the fact that the popular candidate, Rubén Soto, won the night of the General Elections, the difference between him and his opponent forced a recount. Soto prevailed as the incoming senator to the Arecibo District. In this way, both he and Elizabeth Rosa will be the new popular senators.

“I thank the popular electoral team that during these weeks they did not lose any public office that we won the night of the event. We prevailed in Representative Districts 2, 18 and 31. We won the municipalities of Aguadilla and Guánica. And now we have retained the senatorial districts of Arecibo, Ponce and Humacao, “said Cruz Maldonado.

The work is expected to be completed between December 29 and 30.
