SAN JUAN – The president of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), Jorge Haddock, thanked the governor, Pedro Pierluisi, who presented to the Fiscal Oversight Board (JSF) as one of his priorities the opposition to budget cuts to the academic institution .
Haddock, in a statement released this Saturday, recalled that during the past three years the UPR has made multiple adjustments to face a reduction that exceeds 300 million dollars without disrupting the quality of education, layoffs or closing of campuses.
He stressed that it is essential to provide the UPR with a budget that allows it to continue serving students and employees with the level of excellence that has distinguished it for more than 117 years.
“So we can continue the university transformation and optimization of services for the benefit of our community. For our part, we will continue to ‘collect’ new income and identify opportunities that reinforce the fiscal stability of all our facilities and units, ”said the president of the UPR.
He argued that the support of the central government is essential to ensure compliance with the obligations that require the availability of recurring funds.
“Thank you, Governor, for supporting and recognizing the importance of the UPR for the Puerto Rican people. The University counts on your support ”, he concluded.
