GUANICA – Proyecto Dignidad could have won the Guánica mayoralty with the candidate Edgardo Cruz Vélez, but they disqualified him. Cruz Vélez won the mayor of Guánica on Tuesday night by direct nomination, with some 2,041 votes.
According to data from the State Elections Commission (CEE), the candidate of the Popular Democratic Party (PPD), Ismael (Titi) Rodríguez Ramos obtained 1,962 votes; that of the New Progressive Party (PNP), Santos Seda (Papichy), 1,953 votes and that of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP), María J. Ruíz Ramos, 86 votes.
In a radio interview with Rubén Sánchez on WKAQ 580, Cruz Vélez said that he had “22 years of service in the Air Force” and that he retired with the rank of lieutenant colonel.
“Now we all have to come together as a people, work together, to develop Guánica economically, create jobs and have a better quality of life for all Guaniquenses,” said Cruz Vélez.
The former military man said that the town of Guánica saw the economic deterioration of that municipality, but now “a new Guánica will be rebuilt.”
