Public education emotional help guide to the pandemic

The secretary of the Department of Education Eligio Hernández Pérez, announced today the publication of a guide aimed at mothers, fathers or guardians of students with the purpose of supporting emotional stability in the midst of the pandemic.

In Education we know that we must help our students to minimize the impact that these situations may have on mental health. Failure to do so could have negative effects on the intellectual, emotional and social development of children and adolescents who attend school, with a marked influence on all learning and school retention processes, ”Hernández Pérez expressed in written statements.

The document includes tips and strategies for self-care, examples of healthy routines, among other recommendations, and presents socio-emotional indicators and how to address them. It also provides emergency contact numbers that may be useful to families.

“Although this guide is not a substitute for the professional treatment a student may need, it is an excellent tool for families to provide social-emotional support in this atypical situation that we are experiencing as a result of COVID-19 ”, mentioned the secretary.

The guide was prepared by psychologists from the Educational School Psychology program, it was indicated.
