Reports additional 114 cases
SAN JUAN – In its report Tuesday, the Department of Health registered five new deaths from COVID-19, as well as 70 additional confirmed and 44 probable cases.
The deaths, which were confirmed by diagnostic testing, were listed by the department as follows:
- 60-year-old woman from the Bayamón region
- 65- year-old woman from the Metro region
- 64-year-old woman from the Metro region
- 64-year-old man from the Bayamón region
- 79-year-old man from the Metro region
The number of people confirmed to have died from the disease to date is 256. The Health Department has also received reports for 139 people who a health professional said died from symptoms that align with Covid-19 but testing hadn't confirmed the disease as the cause of death. Therefore, at least 395 people have died from the disease in Puerto Rico.
“The change in the number of deaths should not be interpreted as having occurred in the last 24 hours. Likewise, it is important to point out that the death report may vary, to the extent that the processes of registration and coding of the causes of death occurs, which could take several days, ”the Health Department reminds in its daily briefing.  The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases on the island to date is 13,992, or 7,347 women and 6,645 men. The newly registered cases were added from samples collected Aug. 11-21.
“As part of the report, 44 additional probable cases were registered, with a sampling date that includes August 14-22. In this line, the total is 16,728, after being adjusted, by subtracting 14 cases that had a positive molecular test and were later added to the cases registered as part of this report. On the other hand, two cases were added with sampling dates of June 2 and 11. Probable cases are divided into 9,219 women and 7,509 men, ”the Health Department said.
