Puerto Rico – Residents of Aguada, Hormigueros, Mayagüez and Rincón can now request disaster assistance from FEMA for the damage caused by Tropical Storm Isaías, it was reported Monday.

Disaster assistance includes grants for homeowners and renters. It is money that should not be repaid, said FEMA. Those grants can help pay for temporary housing and repairs for your main home.

FEMA clarified that it does not provide grants for a second residence.

You can apply to the federal small business development agency, or SBA, for a low-interest disaster loan.

There are several ways to request help. You can call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 or (TTY) 800-462-7585. The lines are open daily from 7 in the morning to 11 at night.

You can also register at www.DisasterAssistance.gov.

Spanish and sign language interpreters are available as services are requested.
