The Secretary of the Department of Health, Carlos Mellado, announced today the appointment of Dr. Carlos Rodríguez Mateo as the new Administrator of the Administration of Mental Health and Addiction Services (ASSMCA).
ASSMCA is an Office attached to the Department of Health created by Law 67 of August 7, 1993 and is responsible for programs and services related to mental health, drug addiction and alcoholism.
According to Mellado, the appointment was the recommendation of the governor, Pedro Pierluisi. “Rodríguez Mateo is a doctor by profession and holds master’s degrees in public health, Strategic Governance, Public Administration and in Management and Political Decision. Furthermore, as a senator, he has studied and legislated initiatives to address problems related to ASSMCA such as the problem of suicides, the high rate of use of methadone and the abuse of narcotic drugs.
“We wish Dr. Rodríguez Mateo success and together we will ensure that the public policy set forth in Law 67 for the prevention, attention, mitigation and solution of mental health problems, addiction or dependence on narcotic substances is complied with, stimulating and depressing, including alcohol, “concluded the secretary.
