AÑASCO – The Investigations Office of the Department of Health ordered this Sunday the closure of the Don Frappé establishment, due to violations of the executive order that seeks to control the spread of COVID-19 in Puerto Rico.
“It is not the first time that we intervene in this establishment. We have visited and oriented him on several occasions and he has ignored our warnings, so today we closed the business. Unfortunately, its owner did not cooperate with our inspectors, so we had to request reinforcements from the Puerto Rico Police Bureau, Mayagüez region, to complete the closure order, ”said Jesús Hernández, director of the Office of Investigations of the Department of Health.
As evidenced in the intervention, Don Frappe continued to operate without taking the basic measures for the prevention of the contagion of the COVID-19 virus, for which they violate the law by allowing the agglomeration of people, as well as the stay or visit of diners and / or clients without requiring the use of a mask.
“We have carried out three interventions in the place; it was closed on one of the occasions. The owner promised to correct his operations, but has not complied. On this occasion, in addition to the possibility of a permanent closure order, the owner is exposed to fines and the filing of charges for obstruction of justice, since he had a hostile attitude against our agents, ”added Hernández, who said that he also the closure of Don Maceta, a business under the same administration, was ordered due to the violations of the law set forth above.
The current rule of law authorizes the Secretary of Health to take immediate action when situations that constitute an imminent risk to public health arise for his consideration. Among the actions available are the imposition of fines, the cancellation or suspension of the sanitary license and the closure of the establishment that creates the risk.
