Scholarships are awarded to students for their community work

The Secretary of Education, Eligio Hernández Pérez, announced this Thursday the 26 winners of the Young Architect of the 21st Century award, a recognition that was awarded to 26 outstanding students of the public education system, during the last school year, in community work .

“We are extremely pleased to be able to offer this social responsibility scholarship to these young people who today, with their example, teach us a sense of humanism to improve the quality of life of the communities. May their example serve to stimulate more students to be healthy project managers, "said the Secretary of Education in writing.

Each scholarship is worth $ 500 and comes from funds from the Office of Promotion for Excellence Academic, attached to the Department of Education (DE). The students were selected after presenting a digital portfolio in which they documented all their work.

The winning students are enrolled in sixth to twelfth grade in different schools in the 7 educational regions. This incentive is a commitment of Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced and is based on strategies to develop community service and volunteerism.

According to the director of the School Health Program, Nilka Vargas, “during the school year, students carried out various activities framed in the most pressing needs of the different communities according to what has been learned in the areas of the School, Physical, Social-Cultural, Mental, Emotional and Occupational Health Program. ”

These incentives are added to the delivery, during the day of yesterday, of 21 scholarships to students with public and private schools. In total, the DE has awarded $ 5.2 million in educational scholarships during the 2019-2020 school year.
