SAN JUAN – The Supreme Court of Puerto Rico declared a motion for reconsideration issued by Edgardo Cruz Vélez to challenge the certification of winner issued by the State Elections Commission (CEE) for the mayor’s office in Guánica.
“After examining the Motion Requesting Reconsideration presented by the petitioning party, since the Court is equally divided, there is no place,” reads the sentence.
Last week the Supreme Court in an equally divided determination chose not to consider the matter and specified that it is up to the Court of First Instance to resolve it.
Cruz Vélez, under the mandate of the High Curia, provided the counting of some votes that gave the candidate an advantage by direct nomination.
However, despite the opinion issued by the Supreme Court, Ismael “Titi” Rodríguez was sworn in by obtaining a winner’s certification.
