The Secretary of Agriculture, Carlos Flores Ortega, inspected the process of delivering food boxes to non-profit organizations and confirmed the success of the operation that is carried out thanks to federal funds from the Farmers to Families Food Box Program.  The visit was made to the Sor Isolina Ferré Center, where dozens of volunteers made the delivery handled by the Puerto Rican company Caribbean Produce Exchange, winner of the largest grant awarded by the United States Department of Agriculture.
The visit began from packing facilities at the Convention Center in San Juan until distribution to residents of the Río Chiquito, Sector Terraplén, Portuguese Sector, Villa Dos Ríos, La Cuchilla, Corral Viejo and Vaquería Sector neighborhoods.
"In this case 675 boxes of food were distributed house to house. The appreciation of the residents of rural areas was palpable. The success in the operation of this program has t I receive his reward by approving an extension of the same until August 31, 2020, fulfilling the priorities of Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced and making possible the distribution of 1.2 million additional boxes of food to our population with local products and from other states of the nation, "said the secretary.
The delivery of these foods was coordinated by Omayra Colón, director of the Office of Citizen Services, and Egbert Quiñones, director of the Office of Public Policy of the Municipality of Ponce, as well as sister Mildred, from the Sor Isolina Ferré Center, and Mayor María "Mayita" Meléndez, with whom Secretary Flores was in communication.
