The Supreme Court of Puerto Rico closed on Thursday, the doors to the outgoing mayor of Aguadilla, Yanitsia Irizarry, to an appeal that she issued to invalidate the so-called “Pivazos”.
“After examining the Appeal for electoral review of the Electoral Code 2020 presented by the petitioning party, there is no place,” reads the sentence.
Irizarry, submitted a lawsuit to the Supreme Court on Wednesday in which he requested that the mixed votes called “Pivazos” be annulled in the last elections of November 3, 2020.
“The new Electoral Code clearly expresses that the” Pivazo “vote, when they make a mark under a badge and vote for a candidate in another column, is illegal and will not be awarded. In order for it to be valid, the voter must vote for at least one candidate below the insignia ”, the mayor alleged in a written communication.
