Former Mayor of Aguadilla, Yanitsia Irizarry.

The Supreme Court declared on Wednesday the request of the former mayor of Aguadilla, Yanitzia Irizarry to invalidate the “pivazos” votes has not been accepted.

“After examining the request for intrajurisdictional certification presented by the candidate for mayor of the Municipality of Aguadilla for the New Progressive Party, Yanitsia Irizarry Méndez, it is not provided. Notify yourself immediately by phone and email. It was agreed by the Court and certified by the Secretary of the Supreme Court. Associate judge Pabón Charneco would certify the appeal. Associate judge Estrella Martínez would declare the Request for intrajurisdictional certification submitted by the petitioning party valid. Associate Judge Kolthoff Caraballo is inhibited ”, reads the sentence.

The lawsuit filed by Irizarry claimed that the State Elections Commission illegally adjudicated the mixed votes called “pivazos”, which the Electoral Law identifies as invalid.

Previously, the Supreme Court had denied the lawsuit filed by Irizarry on the grounds that it was premature and at the moment there was no official certification on who would be the new mayor of Aguadilla.
