The Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico will offer training to elected candidates on sound public administration

San Juan – The Office of the Comptroller of Puerto Rico will offer a training on sound public administration to all elected candidates, it transpired on Thursday.

The Electoral Code of Puerto Rico and the applicable regulations provide that every candidate elected prior to being sworn in, take said course for a minimum duration of 6 hours, once per four-year period.

“Elected officials will receive training on sound public administration, government accounting principles, state and municipal audit systems and procedures, and federal funds, among others,” Comptroller Yesmín Valdivieso said in a written communication.

In addition, he indicated that the training will be offered in virtual format through the platform GoToWebinar in coordination with the State Elections Commission (CEE) and other government entities.

Training on the use of property and public funds is organized into three groups: Senators and Representatives, Mayors, and Municipal Legislators.

The Governor and the Resident Commissioner may exercise their discretion to take the course as provided in Article 10.12 of the Electoral Code.

Elected candidates will receive an invitation by registered letter and an email with the alternative dates for the selection of preference, as well as the corresponding link for their registration.

The first training session, addressed to senators and representatives, begins on November 18.
