The Coast Guard established ZULU Status at 12 p.m. Wednesday for all seaports in the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, due to the expectation that tropical storm winds, greater than 39 mph, generated by Potential Tropical Cyclone 9 may reach the islands within 12 hours.
During ZULU Port Status, ports will be closed to all maritime traffic unless specifically authorized by the Port Captain.
Owners and operators of pleasure craft should follow the warnings of small vessels of the National Weather Service and take the necessary measures to safeguard the safety of their vessels.
After the storm has cleared the area, the Coast Guard port teams will assess the condition of the port facilities and waterways . Once a satisfactory assessment of the waterway is completed, including critical navigation aids, the Captain of the Port of San Juan will reopen the port so that ship traffic and port facilities fly back to resume normal operations.
