THE CAPITOL – The president of the Municipal Affairs Commission, Representative Reinaldo Vargas Rodríguez, announced on Wednesday that he is preparing to summon José Flores Roldán, owner of Funeraria y Cementerio Toñito Flores, LLC., On pain of contempt, before his second absence to answer questions about the leasing process for the construction of a new public cemetery granted by the Municipality of Humacao.
“Mr. Flores, president of said corporation, for the second time has not appeared before the summons issued by this Commission, claiming that he did not receive the document requesting his presence, sent by email. Therefore, he will be summoned next Friday, under penalty of contempt and the summons will be brought personally to the people of Humacao, so that this situation that he is alleging, that the emails have not reached him, does not serve as an excuse for not attending here, ”explained representative Vargas Rodriguez in statements written.
On that day, Adalberto López Torres, owner of Funerarias Carrasco, will also be attended, “in order to end this investigation and write the corresponding report on this situation.”
The legislator said that, as part of the works, “we have some doubts about the process and the contract that was awarded. We want them to be clarified and he (Flores) is the only person who can do it ”.
This contract was awarded after the approval of Resolution No. 1, Series 2017-2018, by the Humacao Municipal Legislature. According to statements made last week by Melissa Hernández Carrasquillo, legal representative of the Pax Christi Cemetery in Humacao, the contract is not applicable, since it does not comply with the requirements of the law, as it is not open to public auction.
