There are almost 20,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus on the Island

The Department of Health today reported six deaths from coronavirus, 683 confirmed cases and 432 additional probable cases.

Of the reported deaths, five were classified as confirmed. These correspond to a 45-year-old man from the Caguas region, an 83-year-old man from the Caguas region, an 84-year-old man from the Bayamón region, a 60-year-old woman from the Arecibo region and a woman from 82 years of the Metro region.

In addition, a probable death was reported corresponding to a 66-year-old woman from the Metro region.

With the additional deaths reported, the confirmed deaths total 435 and the probable ones are 170, so the total number of deaths is 605. It is important to remember that any death registered after the report is issued will be reflected in later reports.

“The change in the number of deaths should not be interpreted as having occurred in the last 24 hours. In the same way, it is important to point out that the death report may vary, to the extent that the processes of registration and codification of the causes of death are carried out, which could take several days ”, recalls the Department of Health in its report .

On the other hand, the total of the results of confirmed cases of COVID-19 is 19,807, of which 10,547 are women and 9,260 are men. The total was adjusted after adding 15 cases with a sampling date from August 4 to 31. In addition, three duplicate cases were subtracted and one case that was initially reported by the laboratory as positive and later corrected to negative was subtracted. The reported cases are those that have a positive PCR test, with a sample collection date of September 2 to 16.

As part of the report, 432 additional probable cases were registered, with a sampling date that ranges from September 1 to September 16. In this line, the total is 21,186 after being adjusted, by subtracting 57 cases that had a positive molecular test, later, and were added to the cases registered as part of this report; Furthermore, two duplicate cases were subtracted and 242 cases were added with a sample collection date from May 13 to August 25. Probable cases are divided into 11,762 women and 9,424 men.

The adjustments in totals are made as part of an effort by the Department of Health, entities and clinical laboratories, to ensure that any sample made for COVID-19 is registered in the Bio Portal, regardless of the date it was taken.
