SAN JUAN – A man who defended two women who were assaulted at around 8:50 p.m. on Wednesday in the Banco Popular parking lot located on Luis Muñoz Rivera Avenue in Río Piedras was killed by a shot in the chest, he confirmed police.
According to the investigation into the incident, while a woman was at the bank’s ATM with a friend depositing money, an individual approached her carrying a firearm and announced the assault.
Immediately afterwards, their companion, who was waiting together with a child under 8 years of age inside a Nissan Máxima vehicle, noticed the situation and came out in defense of the women, being shot.
The victim was identified as Rubén Cabrera Aparicio, 54, of San Juan.
Cabrera Aparicio was transported to the San Francisco hospital and from there he was referred to the Medical Center in Río Piedras, where his death was certified.
Related to these events, a bullet hit the rear right window of the 2014 Ford Fiesta vehicle, white, which was passing through the place in the direction of Cupey.
A .40 caliber cap was seized at the scene.
Agent Cordero assigned to the Homicide Division of the San Juan Criminal Investigation Corps, together with prosecutor Omar Domínguez, investigated the events.
