The president of the Women’s Commission of the House of Representatives, Jocelyne Rodríguez, the women’s attorney, Lersy Boria and the designated secretary of the Department of the Family, Carmen González, signed an agreement this Sunday that seeks to increase the funds of the Office of the Procurator for Women (OPM).
The agreement includes promoting legislation to establish a fine, the proceeds of which are expected to partially compensate for the loss of funds suffered by the OPM, which in turn has reduced the number of employees who provide service in the agency.
The Special Fund for Financing the Development and Implementation of Domestic Violence Prevention Strategies will be established with fines of $ 100, which must be paid by the persons against whom they complain, after a court issues an order of protection.
The agreement was announced at a press conference on Capitol Hill, the day before the celebration of International Working Women’s Day, this Monday, March 8.
