The Department of Health registered this Monday the first confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in a center for the elderly in Puerto Rico.
It is about a person residing in a long-term care home located in the metropolitan area, but it was not identified by the agency for security purposes.
According to the consultant in Health epidemiology, Dr. Idania Rodríguez Ayuso, all employees and residents of the care center will undergo serological and molecular testing of the virus.
"During the weekend we are informed that there is a person who was presenting symptoms, which made the person require medical assistance and there it is confirmed that it is a positive case, for which we are already working the screening in the location where this person was residing, so that we can identify if it is an isolated case or if there are more cases to work all the mitigation and prevention measures, "the expert told El Nuevo Día .
The term confirmed positive case refers to infections whose result was validated by a molecular test. Likewise, the probable case refers to that positive result for the disease that was obtained by serological testing.
The confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 shot up to 2,071 today with an additional 225, while the probable positive cases were placed in 6,514 with 444 more infections.
