The president of the House of Representatives, Carlos “Johnny” Méndez and the pre-candidate for governor of the New Progressive Party (PNP) Pedro Pierluisi met with members of the Union of Dock Workers in Ponce, municipality where they campaigned.

The mayoress of Ponce is María “Mayita” Meléndez, who is a member of the governmental New Progressive Party.
Méndez Núñez, along with Víctor Torres González, Banchs Alemán and Rodríguez Hernández are the authors of House Bill 714, which became Law 4-2018, which establishes a corporate and political entity that will be known as the Port of Ponce Authority which will be governed, for the first 10 years, by a Board of Directors that will be co-chaired by the secretary of the Department of Economic Development and the person in charge of the municipal chair of Ponce.
