The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (CTPR) relaunched its “Check In for Your Island” initiative, an initiative that they project will generate the sale of 37,000 room nights between October 9 and November 15, which translates into approximately $ 4.4 million in room sales revenue and $ 408,000 in room taxes.
This, to guide citizens on the health and safety measures that must be taken into account to do internal tourism in a responsible manner and, at the same time, enjoy exclusive offers currently available only to residents of Puerto Rico. The aim of this effort is to support the reactivation of the economic activity of local tourism companies, while ensuring compliance with the highest health standards.
During the past months, the public corporation has been working on a gradual tourism recovery plan and on the implementation of a Health and Safety Program, with which all tourism companies on the island must comply. Currently, around 138 companies They have been inspected and certified in compliance with 100% of the protocols established by this program.
As a result of the implementation of the protocols created by the CTPR specifically for the tourism sector, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) in recent days awarded Puerto Rico the Safe Travel Seal (“Safe Travels”). With this certification, the Island is positioned among the tourist destinations with the most rigorous and advanced health measures globally.
A market study carried out by the CTPR in June revealed that, after the impact of Covid-19, 62.2% of residents seek strict hygiene and health measures when vacationing. For this reason, the agency has focused its efforts on ensuring that the industry has the necessary tools to operate safely, and thus continue to recover consumer confidence.
“We are capitalizing on the opportunity offered by the most recent executive order from Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced to continue our plans to reopen, in phases, in the tourism industry, observing strict health protocols. With this effort, in addition to increasing the demand for services and the number of reservations, we show consumers that it is possible to enjoy the destination safely, thanks to the established measures, ”said the executive director of the CTPR, Carla Campos.
The updated Destination Recovery Plan, which was presented to the tourism industry on September 2, establishes that in this phase, which runs until the end of November, the opportunity to encourage internal tourism should be capitalized and that, for the months In winter, the destination could stimulate demand from abroad by appealing to a responsible tourist, capable of complying with local regulations to protect the health and safety of residents and visitors alike. The Minister of Tourism added that, “International organizations such as the UNWTO (World Tourism Organization) recognize that the immediate reactivation of domestic tourism is the first step for the tourism industry to overcome and emerge stronger from the global crisis that go through ”.
The “Check In for Your Island” advertising campaign that was initially launched in the summer months was reactivated this week on the social media platforms of Voy Turisteando, the official brand of the CTPR to promote domestic tourism, and its website www.voyturisteando.com. The campaign highlights prevention measures to mitigate Covid-19 in hostels, excursions and restaurants, calling on consumers to comply with the established rules and to do internal tourism responsibly.
The collaboration between the CTPR and members of the industry has created around 42 offers designed for residents of Puerto Rico, exclusively available on the Voy Turisteando website, starting from $ 30.00 in experiences and $ 70.00 in stays, which facilitates the planning of a safe and achievable domestic tourism vacation.
“We are committed to this promotional effort to motivate the residents of our Island to carry out safe domestic tourism and thus immediately, responsibly and forcefully promote the tourism sector and the economy throughout Puerto Rico,” Campos concluded.
