Trump’s actions questioned | government

The president of the College of Surgeons, Víctor Ramos, classified the statements of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, as irresponsible – after he called on citizens to “not be afraid of Covid-19” – and blamed him for the more than 210,000 deaths that have been reported in the American nation due to the coronavirus.

Until yesterday, the United States had 7,492,442 infections and 210,637 deaths from Covid-19, according to data published on the Johns Hopkins University digital platform.

“Donald Trump is irresponsible and has been responsible for more than 210,000 people dying in the United States despite having a team of top scientists at the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and the Institute of Infectious Diseases , they are doing a great job. We saw the triplet that took place putting those who were around at risk, (who were from the) Secret Service. The reality is that, in addition, he has to follow a confinement; supposed, right? ”, he reacted.

Ramos mentioned that the statements made by Trump should not be heeded, but rather the scientific authorities such as Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, and the director of the CDC, Robert R. Redfield.

“We will never know what he (Trump) is going to do after what he did. They also have to understand – without going into the theories of whether he did not get Covid-19 or if he is serious or a double, that there is everything out there – that the White House has what is called the White House Clinic, that it is not a medical office as we know it. There are over 20 doctors there, a primary doctor with multiple specialists. There are rooms in the White House designed with a regular hospital room, ”he added.

He mentioned that Trump can get the extra doses he needs of the drug Remdesivir at Casa Blanca. He stressed that a “normal patient” has to finish all their treatment in the hospital. But basically the White House is an extension of the hospital. He should finish his treatment; we never know what you are going to do, but you should complete it. That is why it is strange to people that they were discharged earlier than other patients, ”said Ramos.

The statements of the president of the College of Surgeons emerged during the press conference in which community vaccination against influenza was announced in 10 municipalities, under the name Servi-Flu #PrYaTeToca, the new modality of the FluMaratón initiative, carried out by the Coalition for Immunization and Health Promotion (VOCES).

Precisely, the former US Surgeon General, Antonia Coello de Novello, spoke at this press conference about the difficulty Puerto Rico faces in terms of molecular tests. “There are less than 150 tests for every 100,000 people (inhabitants),” she warned.

Distances himself from expressions

For his part, the Secretary of the Department of Health, Lorenzo González Feliciano, distanced himself yesterday from the expressions made by Trump. He indicated that the president of the United States received a “privileged” treatment and different from what a patient typically receives.

“It is a message that can give the impression of lowering your guard, but at this moment of course you have to be afraid of (Covid-19), especially the population most at risk and remembering that the president has a privileged situation, where he received a different treatment ”, stated the official in a radio interview (WKAQ 580 AM). “He has many more accesses than the rest of the general population,” he added.

“Yes you have to be afraid (of Covid-19) because people keep dying in Puerto Rico. Obviously, in September it was very difficult for Puerto Rico in the range of seven deaths per day ”, warned González Feliciano.

Puerto Rico had 51,737 positive cases (confirmed and probable) and 696 deaths yesterday, according to the data included in the daily Health report.

In addition, there were 322 hospitalized, of which 61 are in the intensive care unit and 33 are connected to an artificial respirator, including the case of a minor.
