The transportation company Uber and the Department of Health (DS) joined forces to continue promoting vaccination efforts against covid-19 on the Island.

Uber will offer users four free rides of up to $ 25.00 on the UberX service, to and from eligible vaccination sites between the hours of 6:00 am to 8:00 pm Round trips must be 3 weeks apart .

“We are on the right track to achieve herd immunity. Now we are going to count on Uber to help us in the transportation of those who do not have a vehicle or do not drive one. At the moment, Puerto Rico has more than 1.4 million people with the complete series of the 3.2 million doses administered on the Island. The vaccine has proven to be effective and all must be vaccinated to minimize the risks caused by covid-19 ”, Mellado López expressed.

In order to redeem the trips, the consumer opens the application and chooses the “Vaccine” section, then clicks “Get your free trip” and selects the vaccination place.

Manuela Bedoya, Uber’s safety communications manager for the Andean, Central American and Caribbean region, explained that the company has developed actions that benefit the community since the beginning of the pandemic. “We are excited to be able to make the Uber app available to support the vaccination process, providing Puerto Ricans with a reliable alternative to travel to and from vaccination centers,” said Bedoya.

Uber has implemented safety measures such as the use of masks. The driving partners must confirm the use of it when they connect to the app through a selfie that identifies if they are using it as an element of protection. In the same way, users who have been previously reported for not wearing masks, must take a selfie while carrying it to be able to make their next trip. This effort is part of the commitment announced by Uber at a global level, to contribute 10 million free or discounted trips through the application.
