A prefrontal trough and the humidity that dominates the region will combine to produce showers and thunderstorms during this Saturday in much of the island, anticipated the National Weather Service (SNM) in San Juan.
The meteorologist Fernanda Ramos Garces told The new day that in the morning the rains will be sporadic or temporary, but in the afternoon the day of downpours should increase in frequency, as well as the intensity of the rains that could be accompanied by thunderstorms.
“We have a lot of humidity in the area, we are expecting it to increase even more over the weekend. In addition, we are waiting until thunderstorms, at least, isolated for the sectors of the interior of the island as such and the west. At the moment, what we are seeing is that there is a flow from the east-southeast of the wind, so what is coming is all that warm humidity and it comes from the eastern sectors of Puerto Rico, ”the expert explained by telephone.
Ramos Garces stressed that the wind flow is light, so the rains could remain longer, leaving downpours on the ground. Given this, it is expected that urban floods and small streams will be registered.
The weather agency stated in its weather perspective that most of the island is at moderate risk of flooding. The south-southeast zone has a low risk of flooding.
He anticipated, in turn, that this weather pattern will have to continue for the rest of the weekend.
While, the day of isolated thunderstorms that are forecast for today should affect the entire island, especially the northern half, according to Ramos Garces.
Meanwhile, the meteorologist highlighted that the maritime conditions improved from yesterday to today due to the decrease in wind speed that maintained a choppy swell in most of the local waters.
“We no longer have a warning for small boat operators. We only ask that you exercise caution in offshore waters. Of course, the beaches, although there is not a high risk, have a moderate risk. And you have to be aware of the rivers because today there may be water shocks “, he pointed out.
At the same time, Ramos Garces said that the maximum temperatures for today will remain between the low to medium 80 degrees Fahrenheit, because the radiation from the sun will not affect so much due to the cloudiness that will dominate the region. In fact, yesterday the maximum temperature was 83 degrees Fahrenheit, which implies that it was one degree below normal.
