The president of the University of Puerto Rico (UPR), Jorge Haddock this afternoon decreed an academic and administrative recess for the entire public university system starting today, Friday , at 5:00 in the afternoon, before the tropical storm warning for the country issued by the National Hurricane Center.
Due to the passage of storm Laura through the archipelago, up to eight inches of rain are expected. “We have decreed an academic recess starting at 5:00 in the afternoon so that our entire community can take the necessary security measures to face this atmospheric phenomenon. We have activated the Emergency Committee of the Central Administration and of all the precincts and units, so that we can put into force the protocols to safeguard institutional property and anticipate any emergency. The safety of our community is paramount, we hope that everyone stays safe ”, highlighted in written statements.
Haddock called on the entire university community to be attentive to the reports and bulletins issued by the National Hurricane Center in Miami and to the media, to learn about the trajectory and impact of the atmospheric event. Also, to find out about the restart of work through digital platforms and institutional email.
“We call on our students, teachers and non-teaching employees to ensure their safety in the middle of this event, to stay in safe places and in case they reside in floodplains, arrange to move as soon as possible. It is important that in the midst of preparations for the passage of the tropical storm, citizens do not lower their guard with regard to preventive measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 ”, he concluded.
