Vega Alta registers an increase in coronavirus infections among young people


Vega Alta registered an increase in coronavirus infections among young people from 19 to 29 years old, reported today Mayor Oscar “Can” Santiago Martínez.

According to data compiled by the Vegalteño Center for the Management of COVID-19 , in the municipality there are 48 accumulated infections -37 of them active-, 10 people recovered and one case to be corroborated indicated the mayor.

All the cases correspond to 26 women and 22 men, he said.

According to the breakdown of positive cases, in the population from 0 to 18 years there are five confirmed; from 19 to 29 years there are 13 cases; from 30 to 39 years there are seven cases; from 40 to 49 years there are five cases; from 50 to 59 years there are nine cases; and of 60 years or older there are also nine cases .

“After analyzing the information with the epidemiologist from the Vegalteño Center for the Management of COVID-19 and the JOMYR Laboratory staff, it is estimated that this increase in cases in the population segment from 19 to 29 could be associated with beach activities on July 4, where several people who are now positive shared closely and without adequate protection, "said the mayor in written statements.

Santiago Martínez mentioned that the next free coronavirus testing clinic will be held next Wednesday, July 22 in the Breñas neighborhood .
