Commissioner of the Puerto Rico Police Bureau, Henry Escalera, confirmed to Metro Puerto Rico today that outgoing Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced has already requested the escort service for when her term ends.
According to Escalera, under “General Order 100-110 of January 25, 2019 entitled Security and Protection Office, it is concluded that the escort service to a former governor will continue to be offered after the approval of Law 20 and based on in an interpretation similar to that discussed by the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico in the case of Hernández Colón and Romero Barceló vs. Puerto Rico Police since said benefit was not eliminated by the Legislature after the approval of said law. “
“Under the protection of this jurisprudence, Governor Wanda Vázquez Garced requested said service,” concluded Escalera.
The benefit of bodyguards when leaving the mandate already has ex-governors such as Alejandro García Padilla, Pedro Roselló, Carlos Romero Barceló and Luis Fortuño.
This medium has been requesting since November the amount of money that has been disbursed in overtime for the La Fortaleza escorts but they have not yet offered the information.
