The first enrollment period for financial assistance under the federal Department of Agriculture’s Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) is just days away.

This conservation program provides financial and technical assistance to farmers and ranchers who need help to install and implement conservation practices on eligible agricultural lands.

In addition, through EQUIP, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) helps farmers in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands to improve their agricultural production, as well as their environmental quality projects.

Although EQIP applications are accepted throughout the year, the first period of fiscal year 2021 to evaluate, classify and approve eligible ones ends on October 30.
