GUÁNICA – The initiative, made up of a group of 12 young people and led by Marcial Ríos, met on the morning of Monday, January 18 to clean the Guánica Malecón and surrounding areas.
In the three-hour activity, about 100 pounds of garbage were collected, which were transferred in bags to the Municipal Public Works Center; since the Malecón does not have containers to deposit them.
“The people of Guánica do not need people to sit around waiting for the Municipality to do something for our people; Guánica needs initiatives like these led by young people, the self-management and creativity of all its residents, and that’s what we are here for. To support this type of activities in favor of the beautification of our town, ”expressed the young volunteer of the initiative and who is also a mathematics teacher, Víctor Enrique McDougall Rivera.
On the other hand, the organizer of the activity expressed being happy and satisfied with the support received by his fellow citizens in the activity.
“Today was a great day, a very productive one. I am grateful to the colleagues who joined in the cleaning of our beautiful bay, which for a long time has been abandoned by the Municipal Government. I ask our Guániqueños brothers that we cannot continue waiting for them (referring to the Municipality) to do everything, our town is beautiful and we are not going to let it fall into ruins. We are excited about the new incoming administration, we have faith and hope that Mr. Edgardo Cruz will work together with his people for a better Guánica ”, concluded Ríos, organizer of the event.
